Please take all kilt and jacket measurements standing straight, looking forward with feet placed together. Please do not try to take measurements yourself, it requires two people.

Gent's and children's kilts

The measurements required are waist, seat, length and height measurements. These measurements should be taken as follows:

Waist

Take this firmly, around the actual waist - not on the hip bones where trousers usually sit. The waist measurement for a kilt is usually 1/2" smaller than the waist measurement for trousers, it has to be taken firmly because the kilt sits high on the body and will only stay up if there is a firm enough hold.

Seat

Take this measurement firmly but not tightly, and care should be taken that the seat measurement is taken over the widest part of the hips.

Length

Take length measurement from 2" ABOVE THE ACTUAL WAIST. The top of the tape should sit just below the rib cage then measure down to the top of the knee cap. If you wish to wear the kilt longer than to the top of the knee cap, then measure accordingly, and be sure to advise us of this or the length may be queried. NB If measuring for a Casual Kilt, leave off the 2'' rise.

Height

Please state overall height, as this is used to check the length measurement.

Waist measurements for casual kilts and children's machine sewn kilts should be taken in line with the hip bones and not too firm. Seat as above. The length should not include a rise, measure as above but from the actual hip bone.

Ladies' kilts, kilted skirts, children's kilted skirts.

The measurements required are waist, seat, length and height measurements. These measurements should be taken as follows:

Waist

Take this measurement firmly but not tightly around the actual waist, not over the hip bones as the kilt is the type of garment that sits higher on the body than slacks or ordinary skirts.

Seat

Take this measurement easily. The seat measure must be taken over the widest part of the hips, this could be around the tummy or around the top of the thighs, but it must be around the widest part.

Length

Take the length from the waist to where required. There are no hard and fast rules for ladies' and children's lengths (kilt skirts) - this is a matter of choice.
